Anne Bancroft biography
Anne Bancroft was born on September 17, 1931.
Anne Bancroft had minor roles on television, individual film roles, and increasing roles in the theater before, in 1960, she received the theater award Tony (her second) for the position of teacher Annie Sullivan in William Gibson's The Miracle Worker. The exact role in Arthur Penn's film (1962, Helen Keller's triumph) gave her an Oscar and an international breakthrough.
Among the following major film assignments was the role of the seductive Mrs. Robinson in Mike Nichols' The Graduate (1967).
Since then, Bancroft's repertoire has varied from sober character roles in i.a. Norman Jewison's Agnes of God (1985) to the comedic role in To Be or Not to Be (1983), produced by husband and co-star Mel Brooks.
