Perkins' first roles were as a sensitive, nervous youth in i.a., Friendly Persuasion (1956) and On the Beach (1959).
The type was then turned into the psychopathic in Hitchcock's Psycho (1960), which later shaped his roles and was retained in the film's three sequels in 1983, 1986, and 1990.
Among his other films are Orson Welles' The Trial (1962) after Kafka and Ken Russell's Crimes of Passion (1984).
Died September 12, 1992, Los Angeles, Californien, USA.
