Audrey Hepburn biography

Audrey Hepburn (Edda Hepburn-Ruston) was born May 4, 1929.

Audrey Hepburn's Oscar-winning breakthrough in Roman Holiday (1953) became a fashionable counterpart to the sex symbols of the time in cinema.

Audrey Hepburn initially represented an almost ethereal sweetness in Sabrina (1954), War and Peace (1956), and The Nun's Story (1959), and then the sophisticated woman in Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) and Charade (1963).

Her star career was crowned with the role of Eliza in My Fair Lady (1964). However, Eliza's songs were sung by the seasoned Marni Nixon (b. 1930). In contrast, Audrey Hepburn's thin but endearing singing voice is heard in Henry Mancini's "Moon River" in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

After My Fair Lady, she filmed only sporadically and in recent years, until her death, was an ambassador for UNICEF.

Died on January 20, 1993.
