Karl Lagerfeld biography


Karl Lagerfeld was born in Hamburg on September 10, 1933, to a German mother and a Swedish father.

Karl Lagerfeld was known for his time at the fashion house Chanel, where he was chief designer for over three decades until his death. Here he helped make Chanel popular.

He was one of the most recognized names in the fashion world and has been active for over half a century. His breakthrough came in 1954 when he designed a jacket that won a competition and secured him an internship at Pierre Balmain.

Karl Lagerfeld was known for his look, which i.a. consisted of a dark suit, hair in a ponytail, and dark sunglasses.


He died on February 16 in Neuilly-sur-Seine in France, aged 85.
