At 27, British-born Naomi Campbell had already taken the fashion world by storm, setting runways and magazine covers on fire with a sophisticated, sultry style that has made her both a media star and international celebrity.
After only a few years in modeling, she began breaking new ground, becoming the first black model to appear on the cover of Time Magazine, as well as French and British Vogue.
Since then, Naomi has become a veritable renaissance woman, proving that she is unique outside the supermodel realm.
In 1995, she debuted as a recording artist with Babywoman, released by Epic Records. Her release La, La, La Love Song with Japanese singer Toshi reached #1 in Japan. Naomi has also appeared in several music videos, including Michael Jackson's sizzling, In The Closet, directed by Herb Ritts.
Naomi Campbell is now also making a name for herself in the film and television world. She appeared in Spike Lee's Girl 6, starring Madonna and Theresa Randle, and will be seen in An Alan Smithee Film, starring Sylvester Stallone, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jackie Chan.
Campbell's other film credits include Miami Rhapsody opposite Antonio Banderas, Sarah Jessica Parker and Mia Farrow, and Tony Hickox's Invasion of Privacy. Naomi's television credits include NY Undercover and Fresh Prince of Bel Air, among others.
Naomi, who co-authored a bestselling novel, Swan, published by Heinemann/Mandarin, followed up with the photo book titled Naomi. The book is a personal selection of images from photographers Herb Ritts, Steven Meisel, Richard Avedon, Ellen Von Unwerth, and Peter Lindbergh.
The profit from the sale of the book is donated to the Red Cross Somalia Relief Fund. Naomi is also active in many other initiatives that support underprivileged children.
She joined the Dalai Lama in fundraising efforts to build kindergartens for impoverished communities worldwide through UNESCO. The first is being built in Campbell's name at her spiritual home in Jamaica.
