Tommy Lee Jones was born September 15, 1946, in San Saba, Texas, USA.

Jones's dark, menacing appearance typecast him for roles as a psychopath in the films Eyes of Laura Mars (1978), The Big Town (1978), and Stormy Monday (1989).

In films such as Coal Miner's Daughter (1980) and on television, the movie The Executioner's Song (1982), he nuanced his character.

In 1993, he broke through as a star with his Oscar-winning performance in The Fugitive (1993). He has also shown a talent for both the comic and the tragic in Oliver Stone's three films, JFK (1991), Heaven and Earth (1993), and Natural Born Killers (1994).

In 1997, together with Will Smith, he had success in the science fiction parody Men in Black (continued 2002) and also distinguished himself in thrillers such as Double Jeopardy (1999) and The Hunted (2003).

In 2007, he starred in the Oscar-winning No Country for Old Men (2007).
