Actor Douglas Fairbanks

Douglas Fairbanks biography

Douglas Fairbanks, 1883-1939, was an American actor and producer. Fairbanks debuted in 1902 on Broadway, and with his devilish charm and physical prowess, he was a worshiped stage idol when in 1915, he got a contract with the film company Triangel. He became the silent film's unrivaled adventurer in almost 50 flicks up to 1934, such as The Mark of Zorro (1920), The Three Musketeers (1921), The Thief of Bagdad (1924), and The Black Pirate (1926).

In 1919 he formed the film company United Artists with Charlie Chaplin, D.W. Griffith, and Mary Pickford. He married the latter in 1920.

Son Douglas Fairbanks Jr. (1909-2000) was also an actor and had leading roles in films such as Gunga Din (1939) and Sinbad the Sailor (1947).
