Actor Gary Cooper

Gary Cooper biography

Gary Cooper, 1901-1961, American actor. Gary Cooper was one of Hollywood's most beloved stars for over 20 years. He exuded manly charm and boyish shyness and had a perfect naturalness in his playing. His honesty and likable stubbornness were excellent in films like Frank Capra's Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936), Sam Woods (1883-1949) For Whom The Bell Tolls (1941), as well as Howard Hawks' Sergeant York (1941), and Fred Zinnemann's High Noon ( 1952). He received an Oscar for his role in the latter two films.

His lanky awkwardness was used successfully in comedies such as Ernst Lubitsch's Design For Living (1933) and Bluebeard's Eighth Wife (1938).

Shortly before his death, Gary Cooper received another Oscar for his overall career.
