Gary Oldman was born on March 21, 1958, in New Cross, London, UK.

As a young boy, Gary Oldman was a trained pianist and singer, but he gave it all up to pursue his dream of acting.

Oldman has a bachelor's degree in acting from Rose Bruford Drama College and has done a lot of theater before making his film debut in 'Remembrance' in 1982. He received, among other things, Time Out's Fringe Award for Best Newcomer in 1985–86 and a Best Actor Award from The British Theater Association's Drama Magazine in 1985.

Gary Oldman has played a wide variety of roles throughout his long career. In 1986, he played the iconic frontman Sid Vicious from the music group The Sex Pistols in the film 'Sid and Nancy.' Some examples of other significant roles he has played are i.a. Ludwig Van Beethoven in 'The Woman He Loved' (1994), Lee Harvey Oswald in 'JFK' (1991), and Dracula himself in Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula from 1992.

He has had Sirius Black's role in several Harry Potter films and appears as Commissioner Jim Gordon in Christopher Nolan's three Batman films. He also plays the spy George Smiley in the thriller Queen, King, Ace, Spy (2011) and recently played the scientist who creates Robocop in the new reboot of the 1987 film.
