Jack Lemmon biography


Jack Lemmon (John Lemmon) 1925-2001, American actor. Jack Lemmon became known for his precisely timed comedic characters with a human face in the films Mister Roberts (1955) and Some Like It Hot (1959).

In addition to comedy roles such as in Irma la Douce (1963) and The Odd Couple (1968), Lemmon has often combined the comic and the tragic, for example, in The Apartment (1960), where he is the little man stuck in the system, Days of Wine and Roses (1962) and The Entertainer (1976).

Jack Lemmon has also had severe roles in, e.g., Save the Tiger (1973), The China Syndrome (1979), Missing (1982), and Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), as well as having prominent supporting roles in JFK (1991) and Short Cuts (1993).

Among his later films are the comedies Grumpy Old Men (1993) and My Fellow Americans (1996).
