Jim Carrey is an American comedian and film actor. He was born in Canada but has been an American citizen since 2004.
After a career as a stand-up comedian, Jim Carrey broke through in 1994 with three farces that presented his grotesque comic talent: The Mask, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and Dumb & Dumber, followed by a. Bruce Almighty (2003) and Fun with Dick and Jane (2005).
He has also continued his characteristic comedy as a villain in Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever (1995), Ron Howard's How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), and Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol (2009) after Charles Dickens.
In parallel, Jim Carrey has also shown a more complex character talent in Peter Weir's television criticism of The Truman Show (1998), Miloš Forman's portrait of the comedian Andy Kaufman (1949-84), Man on the Moon (1999), and Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004).
Carrey returned to more traditional comedic roles in Yes Man (2008), and I Love You Phillip Morris (2009) but was surprised with a more serious role in True Crimes (2016).
