John Malkovich biography
John Malkovich (John Gavin Malkovich) was born on December 9, 1953.
John Malkovich was a vital theater actor, i.a. as one of the leading forces in Chicago's Steppenwolf Ensemble in the 1970s when he made his film debut in 1984 with a role in the Southern drama Places in the Heart, for which he was nominated for an Oscar.
He has since continued an impressive theater career. He has specialized in films, especially in roles as either a demonic seducer in, for example, Stephen Frears' Dangerous Liaisons (1988) and Jane Campion's The Portrait of a Lady (1996) based on Henry James's novel or psychopathic villain in, e.g., In The Line of Fire (1993) and Con-Air (1997). He combines both characters in Stephen Frears' Mary Reilly (1996) in the role of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde based on Robert Louis Stevenson's novel.
John Malkovich has also played in, among other things, Luc Besson's Joan of Arc (2000), Shadow of the Vampire (2000), in which he plays the German director F.W. Murnau, Liliana Cavani's Ripley's Game (2002), Clint Eastwood's Changeling (2008) and the Coen brothers' crime comedy Burn After Reading (2008). John Malkovich's comic self-disclosure in Spike Jonze's absurd and controversial Being John Malkovich (1999) must also be highlighted.
