Michael Fassbender biography
Michael Fassbender was born in Heidelberg, Germany, on April 2, 1977.
He is half Irish, half German, and speaks German as a second language, which Quentin Tarantino exploited in Fassbender's international breakthrough film Inglourious Basterds (2009).
Before the breakthrough, Fassbender had mainly played dark and mysterious first-lover roles in the TV series 'Hex' (2004-2005) and in Francois Ozon's 'Angel' (2007).
The career already seemed to get a boost with a minor role in Spielberg's TV series Comrades at War back in 2001 and later in the action film 300 (2006), but it was the small independent film 'Hunger' (2008) that made the difference.
In 'Hunger,' Fassbender played the authentic Bobby Sands, who died during a hunger strike in 1981. He lost a significant amount of weight to play the role and was subsequently honored with several awards, and today Fassbender is one of Hollywood's most sought-after actors.
Fassbender landed i.a. the role of Magneto in X-Men: First Class (2011), as Rochester in the reinterpretation of Jane Eyre (2011), as Carl Jung in Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method, and last but not least as the android David in Ridley Scott's Alien prequel Prometheus (2012).
