Patrick Swayze (Patrick Wayne Swayze) was born August 18, 1952-, an American dancer and actor. Patrick Swayze was trained as a dancer and worked in the 1970s on Broadway.

In the 1980s, he had a breakthrough as an actor in the television series North and South (1985-86) and then in the film Dirty Dancing (1987), where he shone with his skills as a dancer.

Also, roles in the action drama Road House (1989) and the Golden Globe-nominated performance in Ghost (1990) gave him a name in Hollywood, which he, e.g. followed up with the surfrider action thriller Point Break (1992) and an unusual change of environment to the slums of Kolkata in Roland Joffé's City of Joy (1992).

Patrick Swayze's later films include a convincing supporting role in the psychological drama Donnie Darko (2001) and the hero role in the TV movie King Solomon's Mines (2004) based on Henry Rider Haggard's adventure novel.

Patrick Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2008 but continued with roles in, e.g., the TV series The Beast (2009) until his death.

Died on September 14, 2009.
