Sidney Poitier was born in 20. February 1927, Miami, Florida, USA.

He was an American film actor. As one of the most significant black actors of his generation, from the mid-1950s, Sidney Poitier was often used as a critical mouthpiece for blacks in films such as Edge of the City (1957), A Raisin in the Sun (1961), Lilies of the Field (1963), In the Heat of the Night (1967) and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967).

Sidney Poitier also directed several films himself. For the role of a Bible-strong handyman among white nuns in Lillies of the Field, he received in 1963 as the first African-American ever an Oscar for the best male lead.
