Alan Alda, the film director Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo, was born on January 28, 1936.
Alan Alda gained international fame in the role of Hawkeye Pierce in the TV series M * A * S * H (1972-83), for which he also wrote and directed several episodes.
He debuted in 1981 as a feature film director with the charming marriage comedy The Four Seasons, followed by the contemporary comedies Sweet Liberty (1986), A New Life (1988), and more.
Alan Alda, i.a., has been used in several of Woody Allen's films, such as Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) and Everybody Says I Love You (1993).
He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator (2004).
He has substantially supported the television series The West Wing 2004-06.
