Ed Harris is an American film actor. Ed debuted in Coma (1978) and has since alternated between reliable everyday people, e.g., in Places in My Heart (1984) and Sweet Dreams (1985), and more hard-boiled types, e.g., in Philip Kaufman's The Right Stuff (1983), Apollo 13 (1995), The Rock (1996), A Beautiful Mind (2001) and Gone Baby Gone (2007).
He has also made a name for himself as a psychopath in, for example, Just Cause (1995) and David Cronenberg's A History of Violence (2005).
Ed Harris made his directorial debut with the drama Pollock (2000), about the American painter Jackson Pollock, in which he had one of his rare lead roles.
