Kylie Minogue biography

Kylie Minogue was born in Melbourne, Australia, on May 28, 1968.

The sister of Danni Minogue, a ten-year-old Kylie, auditioned with her sister for The Sullivans and landed the role of Carla.

In 1979, she began her acting career in the Australian T.V. drama series Skyways, eventually gaining a starring role in a children's series, The Henderson Kids, before achieving national fame in the soap opera Neighbours.

Around the time Kylie Minogue joined, Neighbours also started airing in the U.K.

The actress turned singer's big break came when Kylie Minogue was cast as car mechanic Charlene in the famous Australian soap opera Neighbours, which spawned the career of fellow Australian Natalie Imbruglia.

During her two and a half years on Neighbours, Kylie Minogue recorded her debut single, a remake of the pop track "The Locomotion," which introduced her to the pop music scene. While the soap aired in the U.K., music producers Stock, Aitken, and Waterman were impressed with the Australian beauty and decided to turn her into her first of many career stages - Pop Kylie - just as her Neighbors days came to an end.

Kylie Minogue's string of successful hit singles took off with the release of "I Should Be So Lucky" and was followed by the hits "Got To Be Certain," "Je Ne Sais Pas Pour Qui," and "Hand On. " Your Heart," "Wouldn't Change A Thing," and "Never Too Late" from her self-titled debut and sophomore albums, Enjoy Yourself (1988 and 1989).

Kylie Minogue's success grew even more after several duets with her Neighbors co-star Jason Donovan. After her film role in The Delinquents and in the early 90s, Kylie transformed from a wholesome pop princess to a sexy superstar. This new flirtatious image was underlined by her contemporary steamy romance with INXS lead singer, the now deceased Michael Hutchence (who was later linked to Helena Christensen).

The newly transformed Minogue received more media coverage than ever and was signed to a new record deal with Deconstruction Records. She even jumped on Madonna's erotic literature bandwagon by writing a similar sex book, although it was never published. Since the mid-90s, Kylie has entered a new phase in her life, Indie Kylie.

In 1994, she released a second album titled Kylie Minogue (grungier than her first album of the same name) and appeared in Van Damme's Street Fighter. The newest phase for the former pop star is a grown-up Kylie, seen in her musical style.

In 1996 she worked with the Manic Street Preachers and, the following year released an album entitled Impossible Princess (which posed a conflict as the release fell in the same year as Princess Diana's death).

Although her later albums did not have the same commercial success as her more poppy tunes, Kylie remains one of Australia's biggest exports (along with "The Body" Elle MacPherson and fellow singer "Tiny" Tina Arena). She was last seen performing "Dancing Queen" and "On A Night Like This" at the closing ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney.

Kylie recently released an album, Light Years (which has already gone double platinum), and will next be seen in Australian director Baz Luhrmann's feature film, Moulin Rouge, with Nicole Kidman.
