Tom Cruise was born July 3, 1963, in New York, USA.

He wanted to be a priest, but Tom Cruise became one of Hollywood's biggest stars. The idol possessed qualities besides good looks, which set him apart from other contemporary young stars.

After the '80s phenomena 'Top Gun' (1986) and 'Cocktail' (1988), he also won the favor of critics with his serious roles. He was nominated for an Oscar for 'Born on the Fourth of July' (1989), 'Jerry Maguire' (1996), and 'Magnolia' (1999), but perhaps the academy still sees him as a poster boy.

Tom Cruise constantly alternates between vastly different roles, from secret agent to more complicated characters, and he has now long been among the most lucrative names in the film industry.

Furthermore, he has collaborated with several of the greatest directors, such as Steven Spielberg, Michael Mann, and Stanley Kubrick. Cruise is an avid Scientology advocate and divorced Nicole Kidman in 2001.
