Carole Lombard (Jane Alice Peters), 1908-1942, American actress; married Clark Gable in 1939.

After many farce roles in the 1920s, Carole Lombard became one of the leading heroines of 1930s screwball comedies. Her sophisticated nature, self-irony, and quick repartee gilded classics such as Twentieth Century (1934) and My Man Godfrey (1936).

Carole Lombard was at the height of her popularity shortly before the To Be or Not to Be (1942) premiere when she was killed in a plane crash.
