Comedian Jerry Lewis

Jerry Lewis biography

Jerry Lewis (Joseph Levitch) was born on march 16, 1926, in Newark, New Jersey, USA.

He was an American actor and film director. In the late 1940s, Jerry Lewis established his name as a crazy comedian in partnership with Dean Martin on stage, TV shows, and film, first with My Friend Irma (1949).

From 1956 he acted alone and directed his own, often visually competent and original films, of which The Nutty Professor (1963) is the best known.

After 1970, his career almost came to a standstill, and Jerry Lewis became involved in, among other things, charitable work. The tired cynicism traced in his characters from the late 1960s was skillfully exploited by Martin Scorsese in the film King of Comedy (1983).

Died on August 20, 2017.
