Jessica Lange (Jessica Phyllis Lange) was born as an American actress on April 20, 1949. Jessica Lange debuted in King Kong (1976) and then had her breakthrough in Bob Rafelson's The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981).
She became one of the most versatile American character stars of the 1980s and 1990s.
Jessica Lange's films include Frances (1982), in which she portrayed movie star Frances Farmer, who fell victim to McCarthyism; Tootsie (1982), Country (1984); sweet Dreams (1985), about country & western star Patsy Cline, Martin Scorsese's Cape Fear (1991) Blue Sky (1994, recorded 1990) and A 1000 Acres (1997).
After the turn of the millennium, she has, among other things, starred in Tim Burton's Big Fish (2003), Jim Jarmusch's Broken Flowers (2005), and Wim Wenders' Don't Come Knocking (2005), playing opposite her longtime partner Sam Shepard.
