Martin Sheen biography

Martin Sheen, e.g., Ramon Antonio Gerard Estevez, born 3.8.1940, American actor; father of i.a. Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez (b. 12.5.1962). After several roles in TV series, Martin Sheen had a film breakthrough in the James Dean tradition in Terrence Malick's epic escape drama Badlands (1973).

He has since made his mark in television productions, for example, in the roles of Robert F. Kennedy in Missiles of October (1974), John F. Kennedy in the miniseries Kennedy (1983), and the fictional president in the series The West Wing (1999-2006), which he i.a. was awarded a Golden Globe Award for in 2001.

On film, Martin Sheen has been dependable in many Hollywood productions. He had a significant and demanding leading role in Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now (1979) about the Vietnam War and has also been seen in, among other things, Gandhi (1982), Oliver Stone's Wall Street (1987), Gettysburg (1993) and after the turn of the millennium, for example, in Steven Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can (2002) and Martin Scorsese's gangster drama The Departed (2006).
